Book Review! The Vegan Way by Jackie Day

When I picked up the Vegan Way I didn't know what to expect. From the cover I thought it would just be a really cool vegan guide for newbies to help you go on your vegan journey. After reading the first few chapters I knew that it was more than that. Some vegan books are good but they aren't personal, they don't all speak to your heart. Jackie opens up in the beginning in such a way that you feel like you are speaking to your friend. She even has some recipes tucked in there that you can make. The voice of the author is gentle and non judgmental. She doesn't yell at you she speaks to you and has a wonderful conversation. She also explains the reasons why wearing wool or leather is cruel. She has not only compassion but conviction. She does not compromise but she isn't pushy or obnoxious.  Don't get me wrong I don't personally have a problem with the vegan police but I do feel at times that not all personalities are going to be persuaded to go vegan with aggressive wording. The Vegan Way is something that new vegans, long time vegans and people who are interested in veganism can get quite a lot out of. I love the aesthetics of the book. It is has bright pictures and it keeps me interested with all the fun chapters.

It is not a book that will be shoved at the back of your shelf collecting dust. It is a handy manual, a journal, a guide that one can pick up again and again. I have already read several chapters a few times. One of my favorite parts of the book is how Jackie talks about her transition from younger meat eater to vegetarian to later on a vegan. She is not afraid to be personable and it feels really nice. She has been vegan for over 28 years. She is educated and informed but does not dumb down her audience. Another favorite part in the book was Planting Seeds of Compassion where she talks about steps you can actually take to make a difference in the world from emailing coffee shops and asking for vegan snacks to writing your elected officials. New vegans and some old don't always have a guide to help them out and remember things or do things that can be proactive so this helped me and other young and old budding vegan activists. I also really liked her tips and tricks to stay vegan, her guide on cruelty free products and little helpful checklists and thoughts for the day. If you want to live a healthy compassionate, cruelty free life this book is definitely for you! Thank you for everything you do for the animals and environment Jackie <3

Rob Zombe and Sheri Moon Zombie on Vegan health and fitness magazine!

I had never heard of Vegan health and fitness magazine until I saw a post about it on Sheri Moon Zombie's facebook page. I was thrilled to see her and Rob on the cover. I found a copy at my local Barnes and Noble in San Luis Obispo, Ca. Go check it out when you get a chance. After I got my hair done and picked up the mag I went to Linnaea's Cafe for some local, home made vegan grub! Had carrot soup, tempeh roll which was delicious plus a gluten free, vegan banana and peanut butter cupcake. It was one of the best cupcakes I have ever tasted! Later I picked up a vegan pumpkin spice latte over at Peets and they had vegan whip cream made with coconut. I finally got to try it! woohooo!! It is SO incredibly delicious and creamy. Yum yum!

New cruelty free hair products: Aveda: Damage Remedy

I got some lovely blonde high lights an Aveda salon today. My new stylist is amazing and she did a great job helping me with all the products that are healthier for my hair. I love Aveda because they are cruelty free and vegan! woohoo! Check your local Aveda salon for great items.

My new Vegan tattoo!

Got some new ink from Ally Lee of Hot Rod Alley Tattoo in Santa Cruz. They hooked me up with vegan grub from across the way over at Saturn Cafe. My artist uses all vegan inks and she is badass and amazing. Before you ask No I have no problem inking the word vegan onto my skin for life. Some people might not like it but fuck em. I do what I want and I love it. I'd rather ink something permanent that sends out a good message of compassion and love towards animals than get some random thing on my body. I hope you enjoy your weekend friends!

Kat Von D, Serpentina eye shadow palette review.

AMAZING! This is my favorite eye shadow palette of hers yet. Go check my vlog to watch my review :D I loved the packaging and the ankh. The colors were incredibly rich and lovely. They go on beautifully too. My favorite colors at the moment are Blood Milk and probably Nile but I need to try the rest. And as always its is VEGAN and cruelty free!! I honestly can't imagine why anyone would knowingly buy a product tested on animals. So gross!. I'm glad there are awesome animal lovers and vegans like Kat who have compassion and class. I hope you enjoy the pics.
